Guide Dogs Victoria - helping a great organisation towards a sustainable future

After a blue chip executive career in the Resources sector spanning over 25 years, Bruce Brook commenced a portfolio career, and over the past 15 years, has held Board positions with a range of public companies and charities.

With service at iconic names such as Snowy Hydro, Melbourne University, Newmont Corporation and CSL Ltd, he holds his role as a Director of Guide Dogs Victoria (GDV) close to his heart.

Bruce joined the GDV Board in 2018 at a time when the organisation was set to embark on a significant transformational change program that will see the historic 1962 campus in Kew undergo a major $23.2m redevelopment aimed at securing a sustainable future.

The progressive plan will deliver the world’s first fully accessible sensory campus, creating a vibrant training facility where disability is forgotten and only the abilities of people with low vision and blindness are celebrated.

As Chair of the Audit and Risk Committee, and a member of the project-focussed ‘Future is in Sight’ Committee, Bruce is excited to be engaged with his fellow Directors and the management of the development of three new revenue generating enterprises that will be accessible to the general public. These include a Vet Centre, Dog Day Care Facility and a Dog-Friendly Café. These three businesses will create new revenue streams for GDV and over time, reduce the organisations heavy reliance on fundraising to deliver its services.

“It is such a privilege to serve on the Board of Guide Dogs Victoria. The life changing work they do with children and adults with low vision or blindness is inspirational.” Bruce says. “ If you are looking to leave a legacy that will support people to become independent and contribute to our nation, Guide Dogs ticks all the boxes for me in efficiency and innovation. Their puppies are pretty awesome too!”
